Bio

My name is Vanessa Lao and I'm a Product Design major. I was born and raised in Southern California and moved up here to San Francisco for school. Although being Chinese, I grew up in a mix of different cultures. My dad was born and raised in Venezuela, so I ate a lot of Venezuelan food, listened to a lot of Latin American music, and was around all my Spanish speaking relatives. The city I was raised in is a small city by the beach called Torrance. It has the second highest Japanese population in the US right behind Hawaii, so many of my friends are Japanese and I was constantly surrounded by Japanese home goods, stationary, and foods which is all what I'm heavily influenced by. I'm inspired by simply illustrated comics and photography.

“To be confident in a simplicity that feels in no way inferior to splendor.”
- Ikko Tanaka

Vision
After I finish school I plan to find a job related to home goods or kitchenware. I would love to part of the product development team where I can use my skills to produce simple easy to use and easy to clean products.

Key Words
